چکیده

REEN gram (Phaseohs aureus) and ,black gram (Ph. mungo) are two important legumes of India and Far East, which are grown principally for their protein rich seeds. Evidence suggests their origin in north eastern India, where most of the wild Phaseolus are small seeded. Inheritance of seed size was studied in crosses among the small, medium and the big-seeded agricultural varieties of green gram to get information about the factors contributing to the increase in seed weight.

Effect of industrial effluent on the morphological parameters and chlorophyll content of green gram (Phaseolus aureus Roxb).

A pot culture experiment was conducted to study the effect of biomass power plant effluent on seed germination, seedling growth and chlorophyll content of green gram (variety LGG 460) have been estimated at different effluent concentrations and time intervals. The effluent is alkaline in nature (pH 8.5), odorless, and comprises of heavy metals such as Cr (0.071 mg l(-1)), Cu (0.014 mg l(-1)), M...

Antioxidant activity of commonly consumed cereals, millets, pulses and legumes in India.

Plant foods are important due to their antioxidant activity (AOA) attributed to the phenolics which are known to protect organisms against harmful effects of oxygen radicals. However, information on antioxidant activity of Indian plant foods is scanty. Therefore, the present study evaluated the AOA of cereals, millets, pulses and legumes, commonly consumed in India and assessed the relationship...

Nutrient composition is a poor determinant of the glycaemic response.

1. The glycaemic response of healthy males to potato, bread, rice and green gram (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.) was compared with that to meals equivalent to these foods in terms of carbohydrate, protein, fat and fibre content, but made up of maize flour, casein, maize oil and ispaghula husk. 2. Natural foods led to a higher postprandial glycaemia than their respective equivalents, but the difference...

Phytotoxic effects of chromium and tannery effluent on growth and metabolism of Phaseolus mungo Roxb.

The various dilution levels of treated tannery effluent (T.E.) (10, 25, 50 and 100%) and Cr6+ (0.5, 2.0, 5.0 and 10 ppm) were used in experiment to know their effect on seed germination, seedling growth, pigments and enzymes content in Black gram (Phaseolus mungo Roxb.). Chromium is known as the main toxic component of tannery effluent so its various concentration were given to know their effec...

Efficacy of sprouted seed extracts of Phaseolus aureus on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1m HCl

Corrosion inhibitors play a major role in the cost effective control of corrosion. Because of the toxic nature and high cost of chemicals plant extracts are currently used as inhibitors. In the current study, efforts are taken to study the role of seed extracts of Phaseolus aureus on corrosion of mild steel in 1M HCl by weight loss method and potentiodynamic polarization technique. The Potentio...
